Celebrate Qatar
Each year on 18th December Qatar’s residents come together to celebrate Qatar National Day, also known as Founders Day. The holiday was officially introduced in 2007 and has since been celebrated annually to commemorate Qatar’s unification and independence.
HISTORY OF QATAR national DAY
On 18 December 1878, Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani became the ruler of Qatar. He is thought to have unified the local tribes by combating external forces. He also earned a considerable degree of autonomy for the tribes of the peninsula.
Qatar National Day has been instrumental in developing a sense of national identity among locals and expats. It has also helped improve knowledge and appreciation of Qatar’s heritage.
