Unique bridal bouquet ideas

A bridal bouquet for all styles

One of the most important parts of planning a wedding is deciding on your bridal bouquet.  From big and blowsy to tight and tiny, everyone has a different idea about their bridal bouquet.  We have put together some bridal bouquet ideas to help you choose the right bouquet for you and for your special day!

All brides would like some unique bridal bouquet ideas before their wedding. Bridal bouquets are designed to complement the bride’s dress. Incorporating flowers that the bride loves and flowers that match the colour scheme. A bridal bouquet can really be a show-stopper at any wedding.

There are two different types of bridal bouquets. A tight bouquet – often made from roses that are arranged with no foliage and make a semi-sphere shape. On our website, we call this type of design Classical Style.  The alternative to this is a loose and natural style bouquet, often found in Europe, hence why we call it on our website European Style.

Beauty is in the details and your bridal bouquet is one wedding detail that you shouldn’t overlook. As simple as it may seem, a flower bouquet is more than just a bunch of flowers tied together for you to hold for one whole day. We have put together some ideas, designs and tips to help you choose the right bridal bouquet.

How to choose your bridal bouquet

Your bridal bouquet is a symbol of self-expression and an extension design for your wedding dress, bridesmaid dress, and wedding theme. Your bouquet can bring together all of these elements in perfect harmony. Choosing your bridal bouquet can be as difficult as choosing your bridal gown, so it is best to start the process as soon as possible.

Start by thinking about the flowers that you love and note them down.  Then consider if it is important if the flowers have a scent or not. Do you prefer delicate natural-looking flowers or big bold flowers like sunflowers. Finally, the colour. It is best to stay with the same tone as the rest of the wedding theme. This doesn’t mean you need to have everything in a cream or white colour, but it does mean that you should choose a colour scheme for your bouquet that incorporates the main tones of your theme.

What to consider when choosing your
wedding bouquet

It is an exciting part of the process choosing your bridal bouquet! We have put together a few things to consider when choosing your flowers, style and design of your bouquet.

  1. Your taste and your personality – It’s important to make sure that your taste in flowers, design and personality are reflected in the bridal flowers.
  2. What flowers are in season? – Flowers that are not in season are generally more expensive to buy than when they are in season.  You may love peonies, but if you are marrying in the northern hemisphere in winter peonies would not be easily available. If your florist can source them then they will be expensive and much smaller than the ones you are used to. So our advice would be to try where possible to choose seasonal flowers.
  3. Bouquet style – This point is more for your florist than for you but it is important to consider. If you are a petite bride then choosing a large cascading bouquet will overwhelm you. Similarly, a tiny posy for a tall bride would also not pair well. There are no set rules to deciding your bridal bouquet shape and size but consider proportion.  The bridal bouquet should not overpower the look or get lost.
  4. Bridal bouquet colours – Take into consideration your wedding colours.  If you are hoping for a winter wonderland then choosing bright yellow flowers may not be the greatest idea. If you are choosing to have a naturally styled wedding then incorporating twigs, plants and lots of foliage would be perfect.
  5. Finalising the details – Take all of your research, magazine cutting and ideas to your florist for them to see the type of style you are working towards. If after all of your research you are still not sure what you would like, talk to your florist. Armed with years of experience and knowledge how they will be able to suggest beautiful unique options that you may not have already considered for your wedding bouquet. The most popular flowers to use for a
bridal bouquet

There are so many beautiful flowers to choose from it can be hard to decide on the right flowers for your bridal bouquet. We have put together a list of our favourite wedding bouquet flowers of all time.

Roses

The classic romantic flower and in our opinion the flower that offers the best options for colour in a bridal bouquet. Roses are generally not an expensive flower and can also come with different petals and scents making them a perfect flower for all wedding bouquet styles.

Orchids

Orchids are so unique in their design, and colouring that they can be made into a bouquet on their own or mixed with other bridal flowers. These flowers come in different shapes and sizes making them a great flower to choose if you would like to make a statement bouquet that will stand out.  Available all year long orchids are also a very strong flower and can withstand being on show for the whole day without wilting. Perfect Bridal Bouquet Ideas

Peonies

Often thought of as one of the most romantic flowers, peonies. These beautiful frilly multi-petal flowers are perfect for bridal bouquets. But we would not recommend using them when they are not in season as they can be very temperamental and may not last to give you the most beautiful bouquet. The traditional flower of China comes in many colours. Our favourite is the beautiful Coral Sunset bridal bouquet.

Foliage

Flowers are the go to choice for a bride, but there is a lot to be said for a foliage bouquet. Full of texture and more unusual than expected, foliage bouquets are on trend at the moment. Lush mixed foliage with a few blooms or just foliage can help to make a big impact with your bridal bouquet. Not only is it the perfect money-saving option but it is a  great way of staying seasonal.

Sunflowers

Bright bold and beautiful, sunflowers are a real statement flower. Beautiful on their own or mixed with other flowers and foliage, sunflowers are perfect for a summer wedding.

Lavender

Lavender, whether it is dried lavender or not has been a popular choice for bridal bouquets for years. With a beautiful heady scent, this flower has a stunning deep purple colour to it. Design lavender into your bouquet as a filler flower or just on its own in a rustic style bouquet. Lavender is very versatile and works with almost all colour schemes. Hydrangea

These stunning fluffy flowers are synonymous with rustic homely style. They are perfect for an English Country Garden wedding, but be careful they are not very happy in the heat. So make sure your florist has conditioned them well so they don’t wilt. (Top Tip – Hydrangeas leaves are what we think are the petals. This part of the hydrangea can be immersed in water to ensure they are fully hydrated)

Tulips

Simple and elegant, tulips come in so many different colours. One of our customer’s favourite is a wired tulip bouquet. Use tulips in one colour and variety to create a chic and elegant look. Or be bold and mix your tulip colours and varieties to create a bridal bouquet that will catch everyone’s eye. Read more about the history of tulips.

Wedding Bouquet Trends

As with fashion, wedding bouquets also go through changes when one style becomes more popular than another. It truly depends on your style. But there are some styles that have lasted the test of time and remain a popular bouquet choice for brides.

  1. Handtied Bouquet – This bouquet is traditionally handtied bouquet of flowers with very little foliage. These bouquets are simply beautiful fresh flowers gathered together to make a bouquet and tied with a ribbon. The trend for a handtied bouquet is to keep the ribbon long and trailing. In Qatar due to the heat, we still wire all our bouquets and add wet cotton to the stem to ensure they stay fresh for as long as possible. In colder countries this is necessary.
  2. Fountain or Cascading Bouquet – This style of bridal bouquet, also known as teardrop and waterfall bouquet is a long statement design bouquet. Originally popular in the 1980’s the cascading bouquet suits a natural rustic wedding giving the impression of effortless simplicity. It complements a taller bride with a fitted gown and plunged necklines beautifully. One of the most famous cascading bouquets was that of Lady Diana when she married Price Charles.
